In the near future Bulgaria’s contribution to the protection of the Black Sea basin will be even more substantial. In this respect the coastline will be rather privileged as compared to other regions of the country, the Minister of the Environment and Waters Cevdet Chakarov recently said. Minister Chakakrov urged local municipalities to use the opportunities provided by the public-private ownership. Such projects will be able to seek financing from the funds for alternative and renewable energy sources. The Environmental ministry supports this stand. The Ministry of the Environment is ready to provide help for the repair of this problem but expects higher activity on the part of municipalities. The money needed for coping with the problems of water-related infrastructure along the sea is about 200 million Euro, which will be predominantly provided by the EU cohesion fund. Those expenses will be fully reimbursed later from the technical aid along the Operative Programme on Environmental Protection.
