The excavated objects prove that there was a brisk trade with the ancient world. The Greeks named it Messembria and transformed it into a big and well-fortified town-state with natural protection both from the sea and the land. The green copses by the sandy strips provide a cool breath of air during the hot days.

The line will connect the whole of the Thracian district in Turkey and the Tekirdag port on the Sea of Marmara with Bourgas. The procedure for choosing new concessionaire takes 300 days and tenders have not been announced yet. The project has been put on hold after local farmers filed a lawsuit with the Bourgas administrative court, challenging changes to the village’s zoning plan. The project will be financed through the operational programme for trans-border collaboration 2007-2009, under a joint project between Turkey, Bulgaria and Germany, which had been discussed with European Union representatives. The two-year ban expired on February 10. Tsarevo will soon have 15 new hotels, Tsarevo mayor Petko Arnaoudov said. Yordanov believed that no construction permits will be issued before the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry made a decision.
