Thorn Tree Travel Forum ... - Rila Monastary Daytrip? Restaurants? ... - Price
Can you recommend any exceptional and interesting Bulgarian (and maybe also Turkish or general Balkan) restaurants in Sofia and Koprivshtitsa? Exercise common sense, make your own inquiries and get expert advice. Explore the richest source of global travel content on the web and let it fire your imagination. Get guidebooks, maps, downloads, DVDs, journals, audio guides and other bargains, and get your next big trip on the roll. However, we don't know how to drive and we don't have a ton of money. Is it an interesting place to visit or is it just a tourist village? Is Rila a totally amazing must-see place? It can be a bit touristy, but that's relative. It is peaceful and charming, though, and the rolling hills in the area are quite pretty.Plovdiv is of course a much bigger city, and is very beautiful in its own right. It's not Salzburg or Bruges touristy, but it's a bit more touristy than most Bulgarian towns. I've also seen that there are private tour operators based in Sofia, but it seems quite expensive. I've heard it's quite difficult and hectic to go to Rila and back in one day, via public transport (bus?) from Sofia. Maybe you know of some reasonably priced operators (please give prices in dollars or Euros)? No part of this site may be reproduced without our written permission. Or maybe it's become easier to get to Rila via bus?2. Please, nothing overly expensive (unless it's truly oustanding); we like places that are cheap or mid-priced and filled with local people. We will divide our time between Sofia and Koprivshtitsa. We're interested in taking a daytrip to the Rila Monastary. We're looking for a bit of peace and quiet and charm in rural Bulgaria. We're not interested in "international" or tourist food. Would we be better off in some other small town, or maybe in Plovdiv (big city, I know) for two days?3.
