A total of 474 million Euro has been provided so far, and the national revenue from granting key transport sites under concession terms for a period of 35 years is expected to reach 244 million Euro. Among the key ones are the modernization of units 5 and 6 of the Kozlodui NPP, which will, hopefully, be completed in late March. Another important project is the “Black Sea” motorway, to connect Varna and the second largest Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas. Another important project is the construction of a replacing capacity at “Maritza East 1” thermal power plant. Bulgaria will substantially draw on EU financing for the implementation of these projects. Explains Petar Mutafcheiv again: “Certain Danubean, Black Sea ports and airports are eagerly awaiting their concessioners,” Mr Mutafchiev goes on to say. One of the key projects to be implemented in this respect is the “Struma” motorway, which will connect Bulgaria with Greece and which is part of the No 4 Pan European corridor. Says he again: “A total of 11 projects will be realized in the energy field, which are to the tune of 7 billion Euro. The building of a national motorway network to ensure the smooth crossing of the country from border to border in the four main directions is one of the top priorities. The completion of some sections of the “Hemus” motorway, which will run from the capital Sofia to Bulgaria’s largest Black Sea city of Varna, is also of particular economic importance. The funds have already been provided, and the project is scheduled to be completed in June-November 2009”, Petar Mutafchiev says in conclusion. The latter is part of No 8 Pan European corridor, which runs via Duras, Tirana, Skopie, Sofia, Burgas, Varna. The total length of the “Black Sea” motorway is projected to be 103 km.
