A joint statement obtained by news agencies says the three countries took the decision following careful consideration. Belgrade and its strongest ally, Moscow, vehemently oppose the province's independence. So far around 30 countries have recognised Kosovo. The statement also highlights the importance of protecting the Serb minority in the overwhelming ethnic-Albanian territory. The three Balkan countries were to make a formal announcement later in the day.
