Absolutely loved it and wished we stayed for more than just a day! As always, make sure you buy the Freepass so you can ride the ropeway without the need for purchasing tickets (just slide your pass into the wicket machine). But that’s the very thing that makes it so special. For me, this was a dream experience – exactly what I hoped for when I came to Japan. Fuji from this hotel, then you'll be glad you stayed here and won't stop talking about it. Hakone itself is an essential place to see if based in Tokyo and our stay at Tachibana only made our Hakone-experience all the more enjoyable.Lovely uncrowded onsen (although men's outside bath possibly a little small), plentiful and very tasty Japanese... I broke a bone in my foot and was barely able to limp around.Everyone at... I was given a standard room with a fabulous view of the mountains that even included the top of Mt Fuji. I will go back to Japan JUST to stay in this place or one comparable to it, and I will be perfectly happy without seeing... If I had known what staying at this ryokan was like, I may have shortened our trip to be able to afford to stay there the entire time. If not, you'll probably be complaning of it being way out in the middle of nowhere, or the food being overpriced, or the slight smell in the hallway, etc.I'll sum it up, stay at... If you have the Hakone Freepass (sold by Odakyu) you can ride the boat as many times you want (you don't need... It is a peaceful retreat from the bustle of Tokyo and set in a beautiful location. It runs relatively frequently but the last rides are usually before sunset so plan accordingly. It’s not some slick hotel operation with the latest décor. It's not a bargain by any means but well worth it. Lovely garden with koi pond, will be a hit with young kids. Most people will will take the ropeway to Togendai then catch the next boat. Needless to say I had fantastic crisp clear fall weather. Often, we will see the featured visitor tucking into his meal with passionate exclamations... On one hand, the room we had was pretty cool which has its own hot spring bath outside. On the other hand this was the only thing good about this hotel. Our hostess was very attentive and gracious. Some sections are so steep that there are switchbacks where the train moves all the way forward then reverses backwards to continue up. The complaint about the lack of laundry facility(?) suggests probably not.Gora kadan is a classic upscale ryokan experience, restful and serene, with discreet and efficient service. The only sour note was the weird guy who checked us in and out. The program will feature interesting ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) / hotel venues as well as mouth-watering food that were served there. The ride is very silky smooth so those with fears of heights need not worry about getting scared. The shower (glass enclosed and steam fitted) was also located just outside our room on our private deck. The TripAdvisor website may not display properly. They have a tea room overlooking the garden, great place to relax & chat.We enjoyed ourselves at the private hot spring bath, as hubby was... This all of course makes the train quite slow, which is fantastic for sightseeing. This was pretty amazing as you have the view of the creek and forest while sitting in a private hot spring. We had the "Hakone" room (see pictures), which, we were told, had the best view in the house and can fit up to four people but we were only two.
