However, according to the report, the country’s reporters continue to face pressure and intimidation aimed at protecting economic, political, and criminal interests.The report goes on mentioning incidents when journalists were threatened or attacked. It assesses the degree of press freedom in every country in the world. Media outlets express a diverse range of public and political views, in most cases without government interference, Freedom House notes. Other countries in the region get poorer scores - Croatia at 79th, Montenegro at 83rd, Serbia at 87th, Romania at 96th, Bosnia and Herzegovina at 95th, Macedonia at 100th and Albania at 105th place.The Freedom House survey has been released annually since 1980.

Actually this Is the only one we’ve ever had, apart from a heavy metal Grammy and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award… Neither for the band itself. As for the security, sometimes you notice and sometimes not. Being in front of an audience is what matters most…and we still love doing it, so hopefully that love comes over.Do you remember your previous gig in Sofia back in 2004? But they’re two very unlikely awards and we like to have them sitting next to each other.Your bio on your official site starts like this: “Transglobal Underground had to happen”. Do you notice such details when you are on stage?We remember it wellMainly that we had Natacha Atlas guesting with us and she liked the audience so much she sang about twice as much as she normally does. Do you think this is so and which of your albums do you cherish most? Give us some undercover details, what was going on behind the scenes?Well, behind the scenes it was like a well organized business that traveled very smoothly. It may be, but it was probably the one that sold the least of all our records. It was fascinating to be part of a touring party that big. It was great aprt from the fact there were too many security guys... My personal favourites are Dream of 100 Nations, Impossible Broadcasting and Moonshout.In 2004 Transglobal supported the Page/ Plant grand tour. On that occasion, to be honest, we didn’t.What should we expect from this gig in Sofia? Right now we’re very busy touring following the release of ‘Moonshout’ although we also found time to put out a bellydance album side project called Beach Bellydance Babylon on our own label, Mule Satellite. So it’s a very busy time.They say Psychic Karaoke, your third studio album, is your most polished album. Tell us something interesting about the beginning. The best part was when they finally did, especially when the first album became a success in the UKPlease name the most important band or influence for you back then? The hardest part in those days was getting people to listen. The tour took place during a pretty bad winter and we will come in from our freezing bus every morning to a good hot breakfast and lots of very friendly people. There’ll be a lot of music from the last 2 albums, ‘Impossible Broadcasting’ and Moonshout.Five members of the band will arrive in Bulgaria this time. Today its harder to say….we can mention about 100 people.Would you agree that your trademark is fusion and how will you describe your music? We all have our own lives… Transglobal Underground has it’s own life too!Transglobal was formed in the early 90s (when drum and bass were still two separate things). We see the award as partly for what we’ve done over the years, and partly for the current album Moonshout which has had the best reception we’ve had in the UK for a long time.During your career you’ve been acknowledged many times. We’re also waiting for a 12” vinyl of remixes of Dancehall Operator from Moonshout and there’s a live DVD just out now in France. What about now?Then: African Headcharge, The Young Gods, Shut Up and Dance, Invaders of the Heart. What do you think about the other three nominees, do you like their stuff?To be honest we thought Balkan Beat Box were going to get it as their album is one of the best of the year. What do you think of Bulgarian folklore music? What were the hardest and on the other hand the most precious moments of this time that you will like to remember forever? What will each of you do if the band “hadn’t happened”?Everyone involved has other things they do: for example Sheema Mukherjee, who is coming to Sofia, is a very respected classical sitar player in the UK. Which prize or moment do you remember most? Working with Yanka Rupkina and the trio was a very important experience for us and we hope to do so again sometime. You have collaborated with many different musicians including the amazing Bulgarian trio Bulgarka. You’re known to have smashing live performances.

Bulgaria is also a beautiful country, with excellent food, history and nature. But the area of Varna, where Golden Sands is, is one of the wealthiest of Bulgaria. But the Black Sea is really nice anyway. Considering street crime, the country is one of the safest in Europe. For sure that the Atlantic is the cleanest sea in Europe. For sure that the Spanish and English big cities have more petty crime than Bulgaria. Gypsies are just put aside in the Bulgarian society. I do not advise you to go to Bulgaria if you are a black or Indian. I my opinion you're got to worry only about the following:1 - Gypsies. I skipped Golden Sands because I do not like artificial resorts, but I was one day in the sister resort of Sunny Beach, near Burgas, and around Golden Sands: Varna and Balchik. It was cheap, even for my Portuguese low living standards. It was during the heatwave in Southeastern Europe. Like many Eastern Europeans, many Bulgarians are unfortunately quite racist. More expensive than the other Bulgarian regions thus.About the weather, the 40º c I got last year was unusual. In 1945 when the country was dominated by the Bulgarian Communist Party, May 1 was declared officially as a national holiday. In Sofia’s Borisova Gradina (Boris's Garden) will host a concert organized by the the ruling coalition's senior partner, the Bulgarian Socialist Party. In the next 45 years it was marked with mass demonstrations all around the country. In the year 1939 May 1 was declared a public holiday for the first time. Prime Minister and BSP leader Sergei Stansihev will attend the concert which starts at 10am. The day is also celebrated by the left-wing media in the country. The first major gatherings on the occasion started in Sofia, Plovdiv and Vidin in 1893.
