Bulgaria to introduce biometric passports by end of 2008 - News news
A spokesperson from the Interior Ministry told The Sofia Echo that the chip will include the data that is on the personal information page in current passports. Applications for passports will continue to be handled at regional police offices, Petkov said.The new passport will include a chip with biometric data, although what data will be included was not announced. Contracts were expected to be signed before the end of May, Petkov said.Bulgaria's new passports will be centrally issued from a purpose-built facility. Currently the UK issues biometric passports without fingerprints. The spokesperson at the interior ministry refused to comment on this issue as the new ID card was “only a plan,” they told The Sofia Echo. This will include a photo and the passport owner’s names, date and place of birth and EGN (Bulgarian social security number).

A close study of the text of a medieval legend, cited as an example of political wisdom, has brought out some information about the Bulgarian public opinions after the long-lasting war with the Khazars. The conflict looked imminent and inevitable but its vicissitudes had regrettably never become known to us. The deceased was buried in a wooden coffin, set with 250 rectangular gold plates, 6.5x5.5 cm each. The enemy can not afford treading unpunished a Bulgarian grave because they cherished high the cult to their ancestors. The Ethiopian chronicle also sheds light on the fact that Khan Kubrat was already in conflict with some barbarian tribes along the border. The find obviously made its first researchers specify the burial as the last abode of not only a rich or high-born chieftain, but also the head of state of any one of the barbarian formations which had possessed those lands for any length of time. The practice of combining administrative and military responsibilities was applied to all ranks down the hierarchy ladder, too. The rest of the neighboring peoples were rather loosely-knit to try their strength against the Bulgarians or to submit any claims to them. The specially made expensive coffin, the lavish burial gifts and the strict observance of the rites showed that the funeral had taken place in a peaceful atmosphere. The successful repulsion of the Khazar raids was at the cost of numerous victims and heavy losses for the economy. The utensils were of no great importance for determining the precise 'age' of the treasure since they had obviously been collected over a 200-year period. Just downhill from here there�s the ruined Church of St John Aliturgetos, standing in splendid isolation beside the shore and representing the zenith of Byzantine architecture in Bulgaria. Mitropolitska towards the Church of Sveti Spas (Summer only: Mon�Fri 9 am�1.30 pm & 2�5.30 pm, Sat & Sun 9.30 am�1.30 pm; $1), outwardly unremarkable but filled with seventeenth-century frescoes. Actually, Kirk and Mitch went to Austria for a couple days, but I decided to stay in Germany for various reasons. And in Ljubljana met for a drink my best friend Adi. Anyway, it was a short night, as packing was done into long night hours. At the end of September 1998 i was finishing my graduation thesis. But, I didn't want to go only to the beaches, i wanted to see the world. I had no more problems with jet lag the rest of the time in Europe. I remember Ann and I deciding to visit our friend, Ali, in Bochum and making preparations for the trip - getting passports and such. I think that I figured it out; the air feels so different because its not humid like it is in my hometown. I took the train from Salerno to Catania. I woke up this particular morning bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. My alarm started ringing at 4:30 am with the song �L'ombelico del mondo� - the belly of the world - loudly. Oh, but I thought the further south I got, the warmer it will be. Saw a couple World Heritage sites, a few castles and infinity cathedrals. So, i picked up Adi some 30 minutes later, just as he was just getting his hair cut (at 5am in the morning hehe)... The train ride to Cologne was so smooth, only took about an hour. We went to Cambridge, Ely, York, Warwick, Kentworth, Coventry, Bath, Amesbury, Salisbury & Portsmouth. While drinking beer and watching people going by, he explained his idea to go traveling to Zanzibar...

For our added comfort, we're also found that most rooms come with a hairy-arsed snorer who likes to sleep 12 hours a day & spread his most intimate undergarmets around the room to dry...and all this is kindly included in the price!! From cable riding through a rainforest to skydiving, from cruising around Sydney Harbour to Camel Riding on the beach, many will say life doesn't get much better thanthis!! Kuwait Cayman Islands Lao Peoples Dem Rep Lithuania Morocco Myanmar Mongolia Northern Mariana Isl. No, no.....each room comes thoughtfully fitted with a fan which softly whirls the scorching hot air around and has no effect whatsoever on keeping you cool. Then you have the Balkan express, which departs from Sofia at about 5 pm (I wanted to take this one to Istanbul, but I just arrived 15 minutes too late at the station!!) This train is supposed to arrive in Istanbul at about 8 am the next day. There are charter flights from several cities that fly in summer on daily base. There are private busses, which are a bit more expensive and there are busses run by the state. There are several �systems� of ticket sales. There are three kinds of trains : the express (which do long distances: f.e. There is however of no extended check on your luggage as you leave Bulgaria by bus and a thing that is very nice, they don�t punish you for not having all your forms of all the hotels etc. These passes are only to be use in 2 class. They often offer very cheap one/two or three weeks at the Black sea resorts. They present their offers as being the lowest prices possible, whereas they are not in fact. Third: the cheapest flights I have found were Bulgarian Airlines and Jetair. This same train returns from Istanbul to Bulgaria at 11 pm. Tickets can not be booked; but that is no problem for the majority of the long distance busses don�t need to be booked in advance. What you can do however, is flying to Istanbul. When I went from Varna to Sofia I had the night express and I wanted to have the cheapest ticket; that is without a reservation on a seat. Which appeared to be overbooked) Normally, if you arrive at about half an hour before departure you get a bus. Yet, these are only for Europeans and cannot be bought in Bulgaria. Yet, they link all cities and villages so you can get to any place you want by bus. You can combine a week or a few days in Istanbul with your trip to Bulgaria. You can shop around and look for the best price and than take a bus. You can then get a very cheap flight and you can just decide not to stay at the hotel in these resorts and follow your own way by travelling around in the country. You can travel around for one month The interrail pass-system devides Europe (they are only for Europe) in zones. You can travel around there by an interrail pass that costs 200 euro. You will have to pay for a transit visa at the border in Yugoslavia. You will stand there for about one hour because there are many busses before you with in each bus dozens of passengers.
